I’ve been learning to become a Nia teacher for the better part of an year now. The one thing that I’ve really learned is that in order to become a “Sensation Scientist,” I need to know more about my body & how it works. Last night Eris & I wen to Barnes & Noble in Ala Moana. I picked up The Human Body Coloring Book, published by DK. I’m excited to learn! My Nia brother, Randy suggested I do this. I know that there are a ton of sensations I feel in my body. I hope that by learning about where things are & how things work in my body, I will become a better Nia teacher. I also hope that by learning this, I will be able to better understand the 13 Principles of Nia White Belt.
The first principle is the Joy of Movement. I really feel like I’m still in this phase in my body. I started Nia in 2009, which means, I discovered I had a body that could work without my brain getting in the way. I don’t have to think when I do Nia. I can be secure that my body will know what to do. I enjoy finding new ways to move. I didn’t know I could move the way I do now. I wouldn’t moving that way I am if I hadn’t found Nia.
I’m really thankful for this chance to learn & grow into a practice that really works for me. I hope that this is something everyone can find for themselves. Since I’ve started Nia, I sense more things through my body, my feelings & emotions have improved, and I really feel like I’ve stepped into the greater part of me.
